Welcome to S.H.E Survivors Helping Each Other
S.H.E provides a variety of self-help based support for adult female survivors of childhood sexual abuse over the age of 16. We also provide information to promote public education and awareness of the long term effects of sexual abuse.
We currently support over 400 women in Newark, Retford, Mansfield and Worksop in Nottinghamshire, UK. Our Head Office is situated in Newark.
S.H.E. was set up by survivors for survivors so if you haven't disclosed to anyone before you will find that you are not alone when you join us.
S.H.E aims to make a better life for ourselves and a better future for children of today!
Take a look at our services and watch the videos made by some of our members which explains how we are helping them to build a better life.
These are some of the classic disorders that survivors experience ;-
- Depression or low self worth.
- Very intense and painful emotions or not feeling anything.
- Difficulty sleeping, eating or concentrating.
- Withdrawing from people.
- Using alcohol or drugs as a coping mechanism.
- Relationships suffering.
- Difficulty to trust other people.
Watch Cloe's video where she talks about her journey, and also Amanda's video tells you that its "OK to smile".
Introducing our Patron Peter Bullimore who is helping to spread the word about our services at S.H.E
At S.H.E, survivors experience self-awareness and empowerment which are both integral to the healing process. The groups have agreed ground rules to ensure the safety of surviviors. The groups are structured in such a way to allow survivors to own, express and release feelings in a safe way, be it through art, writing or poetry; rather than the often self destructive ways they have learnt to survive with in the past, such as self harming, eating disorders, frequent suicide attemps and numbing pain through drug and alcohol adiction.
Group work is very powerful and offers the mutual support needed for survivors to share experiences.
